Advent Lessons and Music
Advent Lessons and Music

Saturday, December 3, 5:00 p.m.

The All Souls Cathedral Choir and the St. Cecilia Youth Choir will combine to present the very beautiful service of Advent Lessons and Music on Saturday, December 4 at 5:00 p.m.  The service will include traditional and new Advent anthems for choir, including the traditional Matin/Vesper Responsory (Brad Hughley),  Adam lay y bounden (North Carolina native composer Frank Boles), Comfort, comfort ye my people (Paul Bunjes), The Creator, the wisdom of God (Craig Phillips), Zion, at thy shining gates (George Guest), The Lamb (John Tavener) and Creator of the stars of night (arr. Ken Lowenberg).

The congregation will participate by singing hymns and carols familiar to the season of Advent.  The Advent Lessons and Music service is intended as a preparation for the Christmas celebration, and as such the mood is contemplative and reflective.  Silence is a key element in this service, an opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of the season.

A reception will follow the service and provides a great opportunity to celebrate the season with others.
