Did you know that All Souls had electric lights AND an electric organ when it began in 1896?
-
Did you know that George Vanderbilt was our first senior warden?
-
Did you know that our church architect, Richard Morris Hunt, designed the base of the Statue of Liberty AND the base of our baptismal font?
-
Did you know that a father-daughter duo designed our windows AND that they contain the elements gold, cobalt, copper, silver, and arsenic?
Would you like to know more about the fabulous history of All Souls? Would you like to share that story with the hundreds of visitors who enjoy stopping by our church day in and day out all through the year? Would you like to be an ambassador and tell people how our history has shaped the church we are today?
Formal docent training will be offered as spring unfolds, but you are also invited to sit in on the history and architecture lectures that Martha Fullington will be offering in the nave for the Mars Hill Elder Hostel classes (Roads Scholars program). For years they have included All Souls in their course about the Vanderbilts and the Gilded Age. They will be our guests from 1-2 p.m. on April 6, 13, 20, and May 4 and 11. You are invited to come and eavesdrop on some fascinating tidbits from our past.
Thanks so much,
The Docents of All Souls
