Brian Cole to Broadcast Day1 Sermons
Brian Cole to Broadcast Day1 Sermons

Brian has been chosen to deliver two Lenten season sermons on international radio broadcasts of Day1, formerly The Protestant Hour.

Day1 is the only nationally syndicated, ecumenical voice of mainline Protestant churches in the media today. Noted for featuring outstanding preachers, Day1 has produced a weekly, half-hour radio broadcast for 66 years, beginning in 1945.

Brian’s radio sermons on March 4 and 11 may be heard locally on radio stations WPTL Asheville/Canton, and WHKP Hendersonville, (see box for times) and on 215 affiliates from coast-to-coast and in Canada, the Caribbean, New Zealand, Nigeria, Liberia, etc. Via the Armed Forces Radio Network, Day1 broadcasts to bases and ships in 188 countries. Additionally, these programs may subsequently be accessed on the broadcast’s website, Day1.org.

The Rev. Dr. Bill J. Leonard, founding dean of the Wake Forest University’s School of Divinity in Winston-Salem, nominated Brian for this honor. Leonard, professor of church history and religion at Wake Forest, is a longtime mentor.

Originating from studios in Atlanta, the programs will consist of an opening interview to introduce Brian to listeners, followed by reading of the Scripture on which his sermon is based, the sermon itself and a closing “Final Thoughts” interview.

Not only will his sermons be made available on the Internet at Day1.org following the broadcasts, they also will be archived there along with sermons by others, for long-term access. The website draws 50,000 visitors annually.

The mission of Day1, Brian said, is “reaching out to seekers, the unchurched and the homebound.” It is also a learning resource for preachers, lay persons, church classes and study groups who listen each week in preparation for their group discussions.

Brian is the second preacher from All Souls to receive this honor. In 2000, Todd Donatelli was also chosen to deliver sermons on Day 1.

Broadcast times for Sermons on Day1
