The WNC Chapter of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship will hold a special meeting in the Owen Library at All Souls on May 15th at 6:00, following the peace vigil at 5:30. Dr. Richard Fireman of Interfaith Power and Light will present a talk, The Future of Energy in North Carolina. While California recently announced it would generate 30% of its energy with renewables like solar and wind by 2020, Duke Energy and Progress Energy are preparing a merger and legislation that will allow them to build four new nuclear power plants. While California moves into the 21st Century, Duke and Progress are trying to maintain a business model rooted in unhealthy, unsafe, and costly technology. These are not peaceful technologies and do not promote peace on earth, or peace with earth. We invite you to this presentation and discussion.
Dr. Fireman is a retired medical doctor who currently serves as Public Policy Coordinator for NC Interfaith Power & Light, a program of the NC Council of Churches. He also works part time for Appalachian Institute of Renewable Energy, a non-profit organization that helps communities, including congregations, find innovative ways to finance renewable energy projects.
