February 23
The event was hosted by All Souls and St. James Hendersonville to draw the talent of the youth community together for an evening of fun and fund raising. One hundred members of the Episcopal Youth Community representing more than a dozen churches in our diocese attended this debut evening. Our venue was the "Feed & Seed Music Hall," a unique family listening room located in the heart of Fletcher. The historic building, a renovated hardware store, is slowly earning its reputation as the "Mini Ryman of WNC."
Local recording artists Mandy Carter and Jay Kaiser of Every Mother’s Dream and Laura Blackley of the Swayback Sisters performed, volunteering their time and talent. The spotlight was also shared by our young people, who demonstrated their various talents on piano, clarinet, guitar, harmonica, fiddle, and vocals. Ham Fuller, priest at Church of the Advocate shared the story of the COA's ministry to the homeless in Asheville and spoke about some of the ways our young people could make a difference. Donations from the evening have been designated to a holiday gift fund for the COA ministry.
