As this issue of the Connection comes out, we are almost to the BIG weekend of August 6-7, 2011 and it is all hands on deck. We need workers for everything: to chop, clean up, sell, make sandwiches, and replenish iced tea and lemonade. Whether you have baked anything, or do not intend to bake, cash donations will help with renting the sno-cone and popcorn machines and the large grill. If you are an “old timer” you know how many people it takes to pull this weekend off. If you are new to the parish, or a visitor, it is a good way to meet new friends and check us out.
Last year we used 145 cakes, 111 loaves of sweet bread, mountains of cookies and brownies, and over 150 loaves of homemade or artisan bread.
If you can bring your food on Friday, bring sweets to the Warner Building and everything else to the kitchen. If you want to help in other ways, please call or email me.
We have two goals for the weekend. The first is to provide hospitality and food for our guests, while raising money to help struggling nonprofits. The second is to make new friends, have fun, and bond as a community. If you are unable to help, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your generosity.

Ooey Gooey Brownies
At the July 3rd picnic, Ginny Faust sponsored the first “My Grandmother’s Brownie Recipe Contest.” After careful deliberation (see photo), the judges chose Laura Coffey’s “Ooey Gooey Brownies.” Her recipe follows; you are encouraged to make these or your own favorites for the Food Booth!
I'm more than happy to share the brownie recipe. I will be baking quite a few batches for the Food Booth and would be glad for others to do so too if Jeanne would like. There is no wonderful, heartwarming story to accompany the recipe. I was given the recipe recently when I went to Chicago to visit one of my best college friends. She made the brownies for me and Jerry. She got the recipe from a co-worker who made the brownies for her for her birthday. Everyone seems to love these brownies. I believe the recipe is an adaptation of a Paula Deen recipe.
