Thanks to Shawna Gilmore and many others the EYC Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper was a huge success! The pancakes were delicious, the music was cool and the company was like that at any All Souls gathering, lively and joyful. This year's supper benefited the upcoming EYC Heifer ranch trip and thanks to your kind contributions in shares, admissions, and plain old donations, the youth raised $1000!
For those of you who don't know about the Heifer Ranch already, it is an educational offshoot of Heifer International. Youth from the church will participate in the “Global Challenge” program. Here is the description from the Heifer website:
For one night, Global Gateway participants experience the daily struggles people in poverty face everyday to simply feed their family a meager meal. Participants are given little—just some rice, vegetables and eggs—and before they can eat, they must find a way to build a fire and cook their meal. The challenge continues on into the night as they sleep in simple housing, such as a bamboo Thailand home. By living the lessons of poverty first-hand, participants come to understand the complications surrounding hunger and poverty and see their connection in creating change that brings possibility and hope to millions around the world.
Now I'm sure you are asking “How can I help?”
We'd love to make that as easy as possible for you! As in the past the youth are selling shares so you can become an investor in the trip. The shares are $20 each, for which you will get a lovely certificate and an invitation to attend the presentation which the group will give on their return. The youth will be selling shares at a table outside the church after the nine o'clock service.
Thank you all so much. This will be an amazing experience and I’m grateful that we have a congregation that is willing to support the youth in their adventures.
