Sunday, November 7, 2010, 5 pm
The Cathedral of All Souls in Biltmore Village will celebrate the Feast of All Saints’ with a festival Eucharist on Sunday evening, November 7 at 5 p.m. The Cathedral Choir will participate in the Eucharist by singing the Requiem by Maurice Duruflé. This piece was completed in 1947, and is one of the most inspired and beautiful pieces of the twentieth century. Duruflé dedicated the piece to the memory of his father, and he sought to convey in the music a sense of the heavenly and a freedom from earthly anxiety. The Requiem is entirely composed using the Gregorian chant themes from the Mass for the Dead. DeWitt Tipton will serve as organist for the performance.
