Restoring Truth, Healing Wounds: How to transform our communities to heal our veterans
Restoring Truth, Healing Wounds: How to transform our communities to heal our veterans

On Wednesday, Oct 5 at 7:30 pm, author and therapist Dr. Ed Tick will host a public gathering entitled “Restoring Truth, Healing Wounds: How to transform our communities to heal our veterans,” at All Souls Cathedral, 9 Swan Street in Biltmore Village, Asheville.  A $5 donation to Soldier’s Heart – Asheville is requested; veterans are free.

The areas with which Dr. Tick is concerned include: developing an awareness of the critical importance of citizens assuming the responsibility of sharing the burden of war; the psychological and spiritual dimensions of war; the importance of spirituality and community in healing from the trauma of war; and practical things communities can do to support the safe return and successful re-integration of veterans.

Dr. Ed Tick, of Albany, NY, is the author of War and the Soul.  He has worked with veterans since the mid-1970’s, and more recently also facilitated community conversations about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in veterans and their families. Dr. Tick sees this as not only as a “soul” or identity disorder in veterans, but also as a social disorder which has become a broken covenant between our warriors and the public. He helps citizens understand how they can effectively fulfill their duty to support veterans upon their return. Dr. Tick has been offering these programs around the country for several years and they have been effective in inspiring and organizing communities to action on behalf of vets. This event is a unique and powerful opportunity to bring the western North Carolina  community together in support of  veterans and their families.
