Roots + Wings School of Art (R+WSofA) has just celebrated their first anniversary, and with the generous support of The Cathedral of All Souls, is engaged in their first outreach project. R+WSofA is part of an innovative new after school program for the students at Asheville Middle called irl (in real life: www.inreallifeasheville.org). Led by the Asheville City Schools Foundation and other community partners, over 15 organizations have come together to provide fun, safe, high quality, educational activities during after-school hours. R+WSofA is hosting the Community Design Lab, an engaging new program that explores art and design through hands-on projects with a focus on drawing and printmaking techniques. In subsequent sessions students will draw project inspiration from the design of textiles, buildings, athletic shoes, automobiles, and graffiti—to name a few. Without the support from The Cathedral of All Souls, this new program would not have been possible.
Roots + Wings School of Art (www.rootsandwingsarts.com) provides unique visual arts education opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and functionalities. Through collaboration, they are forging relationships with the diverse talents of the local artist community and integrating them into their vast selection of programs. R+WSofA houses their Visual Arts Preschool and Monthly Art Sessions in the The Cathedral of All Souls education wing. Other programs include Art Workshops for 18+, Summer Art Camps, Custom Art Studio Sessions, Home School Art Sessions, and Art Birthday Celebrations. The founding director is Ginger Huebner, a member at All Souls, along with her husband Scott and two children, Mia and Felix.
