The following are excerpts from letters of thanks related to our “house sale tithe” which was reported in the August Connection.
Dear Members of All Souls:
Thank you for The Cathedral of All Souls’ generous contribution of $14,667 to Episcopal Relief and Development. Your gift was designated for the Haiti Earthquake Response, which will help those suffering in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12th.
Since the quake, ERD has been working closely with the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti to provide support to people affected by this disaster. In partnership with the diocese, our emergency response has assisted more than 60,000 people with food, water, shelter, health care, sanitation, and other relief. We are collaborating with the diocese to develop a plan for Haiti’s long-term recovery, which will include increased focus on job creation and cash-for-work programs. Your contribution has made these efforts possible.
Faithfully,
Robert W. Radtke, President
Dear Member of All Souls,
The Board of Directors, staff, and clients of the All Souls Counseling Center extend our deepest gratitude for the gift which was approved and given through the vestry of the church. ASCC is one of the main providers of sliding scale counseling to the uninsured and underinsured in WNC, and financial support is greatly needed and appreciated. In being able to provide affordable counseling, we help our clients learn coping skills that impact all aspects of their lives, that include, but are not limited to, taking care of daily activities of their lives, maintaining employment, being successful parents, and being healthy citizens of our community.
Sincerely,
Sue Brooks, Pam Penland, and Kitty Price
Dear Members of All Souls,
Thank you for your generous donation to Homeward Bound Programs. It allows us to proved basic needs for persons at our A HOPE Day Center, shelter for women at the Room in the Inn program, and security deposits, rent payments, and case management to clients in permanent housing through our Pathways to Permanent Housing program.
Sincerely yours,
Brian K. Alexander, Executive Director.
Dear Member of All Souls,
Thank you so much for the check to Mountain Area Residential Facilities which you gifted to us for the purpose of buying dining room chairs in our group home.
Gifts like this enable us to create a more homelike setting for the people we serve in our group homes, which enhances the quality of their lives immensely. As all of you know, the funding for mental health, including developmental disabilities, has been cut over the past few years. This gift from your community will help us to purchase these items which are no longer in our budget, but are still a needed expense.
With sincere appreciation,
Jeanne Cagle, Executive Director
Dear Members of All Souls,
Your gift supports the Literacy Council as we look toward a bright and expansive summer. Thank you.
Our two current programs, Adult Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages, have proven success in increasing adult literacy in Buncombe County, but there is a need for preventative work, as well. According to a recent report issued by the Asheville City Schools, only 41% of African-American 3rd–8th grade students have reading levels at or above grade level. Approximately 18% of children in Buncombe County will not graduate high school.
Your generosity allows us to maintain our current successful programs and to begin preventing adult illiteracy. Thank you for enabling us to expand our reach.
Best wishes,
Ashley Vandewart and Amanda Edwards
Dear Members of All Souls,
Thank you for your gift to Episcopal Community Services of Louisiana Operation 504 Rebuild Campaign. Your commitment to support our work will help us with the operational costs to complete all work on the houses of the most vulnerable. With your help, we will continue to extend ourselves in ministry to rebuild a new community in which all member are afforded dignity, respect, and justice.
In gratitude,
Nell Bolton and Arthur Johnson
Dear Members of All Souls,
We are deeply grateful to the Cathedral of All Souls’ members for their donation to Arts for Life. This generous contribution enables us to purchase many art supplies, bringing the wonders of visual arts, creative writing, and music to hundreds of children and families impacted by illness. We are honored that you have chosen to help us bring discovery, joy, and healing to young patients through the arts.
Warmest regards,
Anna Littman, Executive Director
Dear Members of All Souls,
On behalf of Doctors Without Borders I want to thank everyone at the Cathedral of All Souls for your support of our emergency programs in Haiti. We are deeply grateful for your trust and generosity.
Your contribution enables us to respond to the humanitarian crisis and bring medical care to victims of the earthquake. To date, our teams have treated more than 173,000 people and performed nearly 11,000 surgical operations. Your gift will also help us rebuild our medical programs in the country. Thank you for your commitment to our work.
Sincerely,
Allison Morris
Dear Friends at the Cathedral of All Souls,
Your gift to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is greatly appreciated. Our real campaign goal is much greater than the dollars raised. It’s about ensuring that children like Alyna have the opportunity to improve their grades through Project Rise; it’s about ensuring that families like that of single parent Jami have an enriching and safe environment through the After School Program; and it’s about ensuring that individuals like Craig have the support and guidance to shift their life-threatening obesity into a healthy state of spirit, mind, and body. The Strong Kids Campaign Goal is more than just raising money, it’s giving those in need the opportunity to Transform Their Story into a GREAT Future!
Sincerely,
Paul P. Vest, President and CEO
Dear Congregation of the Cathedral of All Souls,
Thank you. This year, more than 3,000 older adults and their caregivers will receive assistance from The Council on Aging, and your donation makes you a partner in that important work.
We pledge to honor your support with accountable and diligent work on behalf of those who access our services.
Sincerely,
Wendy Marsh, Director
Dear Members of All Souls,
Thank you so much for the generous gift to the Eliada TASC program. We are so grateful that we can continue to care for our horses Sapphire and Malachai. They are so special to our children.
Support from kind individuals like you allows us to continue fulfilling our mission: Helping Children Succeed.
Sincerely,
Debbie
Dear Members of All Souls,
Thanks, as always, for your very generous donation of books through the Early Reading Connection. This always brings such joy to the children we see for counseling, and goes such a long way.
We really appreciate it, and you.
Sincerely,
Bill McGuire, Director/CEO
Dear Cathedral of All Souls,
Thank you for your generous gift to Memory Care. This gift will help us serve caregivers in our education program by providing them with the tools they need to better care for their loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. We are grateful.
Sincerely,
Katie Wiles, Director of Development
Dear Members of All Souls,
Thank you for your gift to Pisgah Legal Services.
The couple had been maintaining their mortgage payments while they were employed, but when the economic downturn caused both husband and wife to lose their jobs, they fell three months behind on their payments and were facing foreclosure. They had hit a brick wall in trying to work things out with their lender when they called Pisgah Legal Services. PLS Senior Attorney Bill Whalen helped the Campbells to obtain a modification of their original loan, restructuring it for a longer term at a lower interest rate, with more manageable monthly payments. This spring, instead of becoming a time of loss and misfortune for this family, has brought hope for their future. Thank you for making it possible for PLS to serve more vulnerable people in our community every day.
Sincerely,
Jim Barrett, Executive Director
Dear Members of All Souls,
Thank you so much for the Cathedral of All Souls’ recent gift to Mountain BizWorks. This gift is especially important in this uncertain economy, when we have more clients accessing our financial services, taking classes, and using our support networks.
My thanks and best regards,
Nathan Harlan, Development Director
