What’s For Lunch?

For the one out of four area children living in poverty the answer is probably NOTHING.  This year 52 percent of students in Buncombe County schools received free or reduced lunches, not to mention back pack programs which send food home for the weekend.  For some children  these are the only meals provided.

Now that school is out for the summer it is more important  than ever that we support the Human Needs food drive.  On the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday all donations go to the Emma Resource Center Food Pantry.  While the Community Garden provides fresh vegetables, there  is a large need for high protein foods, kid-friendly foods, and family-size canned goods.
Our children are our future and these are our children.
